The Sutton Heritage House and Garden Charitable Trust was established by deed on the 12th of October 2018. It was registered as a charity on the 18th of December 2018 ( Registration Number CC56137). Details about the charity including the Trust Deed, annual returns and current officers are publicly available on the charities register and can be accessed through the charities website www.charities.govt.nz
The principle objects of the Trust are:
To establish a Trust for the purpose of honouring and celebrating the life and work of the renowned Christchurch artist and educationalist W.A. [Bill] Sutton [1917-2000] by establishing a unique cultural and educational centre and visitor destination which will include the following independent components, each carrying the Sutton name:
(a) the establishment of the former private home, studio and garden of the Artist at 20 Templar St, Christchurch as a public house and garden museum, to be called the Sutton Heritage House and Garden Museum;
(b) the provision of accommodation and studio for the Sutton “Artist in Residence” Programme
(c) the establishment of an adjoining special park to be called “Sutton Park”, for outdoor art related activities.
